How It Works — The Renal Balance Score

KiDDiAI's Renal Balance Score is a 0–100 composite score across five nutritional pillars, personalized to your CKD stage and dialysis status.

Managing a CKD diet is complicated. You’re tracking protein, sodium, potassium, phosphorus, and fluid — all with different limits depending on your CKD stage, whether you’re on dialysis, and whether you have other conditions like CHF.

KiDDiAI simplifies this into a single daily score: the Renal Balance Score (RBS).

What is the Renal Balance Score?

The RBS is a 0–100 daily score that measures how well your food intake aligns with your kidney health goals. It’s computed across five nutritional pillars:

  • Protein — Too much accelerates kidney decline; too little causes malnutrition
  • Sodium — High sodium raises blood pressure and worsens kidney disease
  • Potassium — Dangerous at high levels for CKD Stage 4–5 and dialysis patients
  • Phosphorus — Excess phosphorus harms bones and the cardiovascular system
  • Fluid — Critical for dialysis patients who can’t excrete excess fluid

Each pillar is scored independently, then combined with weights tailored to your profile.

Four Scoring Profiles

KiDDiAI doesn’t use a single formula for everyone. Your profile is selected based on your CKD stage and treatment status:

Profile Who It’s For
Standard CKD Stage 3–5, not on dialysis
Dialysis Hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis patients
Fluid-Restricted CHF or edema, not on dialysis
Early Stage Stage 0–3a (potassium/phosphorus weighted lower)

This matters because, for example, a Stage 3 patient and a dialysis patient have very different potassium and protein targets.

What the Score Means

Score Status What It Means
85–100 Optimal Excellent dietary alignment
70–84 Stable Good, with minor areas to improve
50–69 Caution Notable imbalances to address
0–49 Critical Significant dietary concerns

How to Use It

You can try the RBS Calculator with your own nutrient values right now — no account needed. In the app, the score updates automatically as you log meals.

  1. Log your food — Search the food database, scan barcodes, or photograph meals
  2. Check your RBS — Your daily score updates in real time on the dashboard
  3. Review each pillar — See exactly which nutrients are in or out of range
  4. Get tips — KiDDiAI surfaces targeted advice for your lowest-scoring pillars

Personalized to Your Limits

If your nephrologist or dietitian has prescribed specific nutrient limits, you can enter them directly in your profile. KiDDiAI will use those instead of the stage-based defaults.
